Meet Our People

Ben Martin

As the only son of Clifford Martin, one of the founders of MFD, Ben has been in the family business since finishing college in 1982. He earned his stripes as part of the delivery team; however, he began learning about all aspects of the retail furniture business from his dad and Uncle Johnny from the beginning. He has seen MFD through many internal and external changes, including the addition of an outside tool room, a remodeled office space, expanded lines of merchandise, a new computer and accounting system, and the loss of his beloved dad, Clifford. Working side by side the Martin brothers was a valuable source of knowledge for Ben and he has passed this personal and professional expertise on to his loyal customer base. Ben is a master outdoorsman; he has a passion for fishing and canoeing trips in the Canadian wilderness every year. He and his wife Courtney, also a MFD employee, have been married 20 years and enjoy three children and all their activities.

Courtney Martin

Courtney is the wife of our owner, Ben, and has worked at MFD for over 10 years. Also a Gainesville native, she was active for many years with her mother who owned a popular local retail fashion business, so attention to style is her forte. Courtney is well trusted as a buyer at market time and has been a marvelous addition to our lovely sales staff. She assists with merchandizing and inventory as well. She is a fantastic cook and loves to travel…especially to New York! Courtney and Ben were married more than 20 years ago and have a son and two daughters who also keep her busy.

Joanne Dillashaw

Joanne has been a treasured employee at MFD for almost 20 years. She was born and raised in Albany, Georgia, but relocated to Gainesville in 1975 after her marriage, which is approaching its 40th anniversary. Joanne was a long-time employee at Ronald's, a local high-fashion shop owned by Courtney's mama. When Ronald's closed, Joanne was quickly and delightfully added to the MFD full-time staff. She has an eye for color, style, and taste and has become Ben's greatest assistant for merchandizing, inventory, and order management. She learned much from "Mr. Cliff" as many fondly called him, but nothing more important than how to value every customer who walks through our door and treat each one with dignity and grace.

Debbie Williams

Debbie moved to Gainesville more than 30 years ago from Jasper, Georgia, where she played point guard for the Pickens County High School girls' basketball team and won All State Honors in 1974. Although she had an injury halting basketball scholarship from Truett-McConnell College, she earned a business degree. Her MFC career began when two of the original Martins, Clifford, Johnny, were busy at the store. She learned of much of her sales and business expertise from them. She took a break when having her two daughters, but has been back in the MFD family for over 15 years since. Debbie and Courtney are buyers at Market time; she has a passion for fashion, fads, and fun! Decorating our floor and shopping for new and fresh pieces are her strong suits. Debbie and her husband of 30 years love taking motorcycle trips through the mountains of North Georgia and traveling abroad.

Jackie Lewis

Jackie is one of our two office managers. She became part of the company in January 2008 when the office manager of 13 years retired. The job-share team has been a fresh and effective change for MFD. Managing payments, phone calls, incoming shipments and all office related business are their responsibilities. Born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, she came to Gainesville in 1982 after graduating from University of Auburn, Montgomery. She has been managing the Young Life of Hall County office for 10 years and continues to be a vital part of the ministry to the community that it offers. Jackie loves to cook, read, play tennis, and shop! She and her husband of over 30 years have 3 children.

Margaret Martin Henson

Margaret is the oldest daughter of Cliff Martin, one of the original founders. She came to work at MFD in January 2008 after a long time office manager retired. She and Jackie Lewis are our office managers and a remarkable job-share team, a first at our business, but it has been a terrific success. A Gainesville native, Margaret is an avid ex-college tennis player, a United Black Belt in Karate, and an artist. A graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Education, she has been married over 30 years and she and her husband have three adult children.
